ABOUT SVD CARPENTRY

SVD Carpentry was born in 2007. Simon Dauphinee, SVD Carpentry's owner and operator, has nearly a decade of construction experience. Simon began his career as a labourer during his summers off from Carleton University. He worked on large construction sights building scaffold towers and helping the skilled trades, though he took a particular interest in carpentry. After graduating from Carleton with honours in International History, Simon took a job as a carpenter's assistant in Montreal.

Simon later moved to Toronto, the home of SVD Carpentry. Toronto afforded him the opportunity to work on numerous century-old homes in Cabbage Town, a historical district in Toronto's east end. Seeking more knowledge in the trade, Simon enrolled in the Carpentry Apprenticeship program with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. He spent three years studying under a Master Carpenter, working on home renovations and new builds, and practicing a wide variety of disciplines under the carpentry umbrella.

The past decade of construction experience laid the foundation for a carpentry and renovation company fully dedicated to the project at hand. The top priority is delivering the client everything—and more—than they expect.

In addition to typical home renovations, SVD Carpentry has explored other avenues in set design and builds, including music videos and movies. Most recently, Simon has appeared on HGTV's Marriage Under Construction, which airs Mondays at 9:30 p.m. starting Jan. 3, 2011.
